Legacy swordsmanship is a comprehensive, fully developed, martial arts curriculum that trains the student in the use of the traditional Japanese katana and its Korean counterpart.

The focus of Legacy is to create real practical swordsmanship skill through hard work, diligence, and fostering "the warrior spirit". Students will develop mind, body, and spirit as well as the true value and beauty of human life.

The philosophy behind Legacy swordsmanship is one of constant practice. Through constant dedication to swordsmanship principals, the student learns how to make the study of the sword a part of their everyday life. The teaching posture of Legacy takes the position that all beginners are as "newly planted seedlings" building skill in mind, body, and spirit from the ground up. We all start as clumsy beginners.

The path of the sword is a lifelong endeavour full of mountains and valleys and there is no expectation on performance besides never giving up and always striving for the excellence of harmony.

Students start their training as a white belt and gain black stripes 1-11 as their skills increase. The 12th black stripe is the black belt which means the student in Legacy swordsmanship finally has learned "how to learn" the sword. All belt levels after black are called degrees, and are based on teaching skills, sparing, and dedication to the way of legacy swordsmanship.

The School of swordsmanship is called Legacy in recognition of all those that came before us in history, from all walks of life, who studied the path of the warrior that they should become instruments of peace. Within and without.
